As a child, Rachel was a member of the Brownies, Girl Guides, a Ranger Guide and a Young Leader. She was selected to represent North East England in ‘An Experiment in International Living’ home stay trip to Japan and spent a month living with Japanese Girl Guides and their families at the age of 16. She went on to become a Young Leader and achieved her Young Leader’s Award whilst supporting 2 Brownie packs before going off to university.
Fast forward another 18 years, Rachel’s oldest son turns six years old and it is time for him to join Beavers. Naturally, as a qualified Primary school teacher used to being surrounded by 6 and 7 year olds, Rachel offered to help out and soon found herself wearing a Scout uniform. Now that both her boys are involved in Scouting, she often jokes that she had to leave Guiding, switch allegiance and join ‘The Dark Side’.
Rachel was previously a Beaver Leader, Cub Scout Leader and Group Scout Leader with 1 st Kuwait Salmiya Scout Group, part of British Scouting Overseas in the Middle East. Scouting highlights from her time there include escaping desert sandstorms, camping on camel farms, exploring the bombed out island of Failaka and visiting a tank graveyard. She also took Kuwait Cubs and Scouts to the 1 st and 2 nd Middle East Camps in Dubai and Oman.
She moved to Spain in September 2016 and is pleased to be able to continue her Scouting Adventure with 1 st Fuengirola Scout Group.
